Have you ever had a "step up" moment? If we're going to be who God made us to be, then a big first move is learning to step up in high school. Joshua was a normal guy who found himself in some challenging circumstances. His story begins during the time Moses led the Hebrew people out of slavery. Moses picks twelve guys to do a sort of recon mission in the land. The good news? The land is awesome! Bad news? Someone already called dibs on this land. There will always be very logical reasons to step back from where God is leading. The other guys focused on the obstacles in their report, but Joshua and Caleb focused on God. And that made the difference. When you factor in God, fear shrinks. What do you see when you look at your life in high school? What is your report? Factoring in God simply means that when you see a challenge, you decide that God is bigger than your fear. Where can you start factoring in God? As you go about your week, think of one area where fear is calling the shots. As we do this, regardless of what happens, we'll have more peace and more confidence because we know who goes with us.
Stepping up = seeing God in your situation.
The Lord now said to Moses, “Send out men to explore the land of Canaan, the land I am giving to the Israelites. Send one leader from each of the twelve ancestral tribes.” -Number 13:1-2 NLT
This was their report to Moses: “We entered the land you sent us to explore, and it is indeed a bountiful country—a land flowing with milk and honey. Here is the kind of fruit it produces. But the people living there are powerful, and their towns are large and fortified. We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak! But the other men who had explored the land with him disagreed. “We can’t go up against them! They are stronger than we are!” -Numbers 13:27-28, 31 NLT
7 They said to all the people of Israel, “The land we traveled through and explored is a wonderful land! 8 And if the Lord is pleased with us, he will bring us safely into that land and give it to us. It is a rich land flowing with milk and honey. 9 Do not rebel against the Lord, and don’t be afraid of the people of the land. They are only helpless prey to us! They have no protection, but the Lord is with us! Don’t be afraid of them!” -Numbers 14:7-9 NLT
