Sometimes it can feel like there are barriers between us and God.
As we continue our series on drawing closer to God remember that last week we said if you want to get closer to God, you have to move. This week we talked about some of the things that may stand in the way from us moving closer to God.
Small Group Summary
If you’ve ever gone to a concert or game or movie premiere, you probably know what it’s like to be blocked by a barrier—a barrier designed to keep you away from a certain athlete or celebrity or actor. Ropes, walls, gates, security guards... they’re all barriers to make sure you keep your distance. But barriers don’t just exist in concerts or sporting arenas for the safety of superstars. They can exist in your life and relationships as well. Sometimes there are invisible barriers that create distance between you and other people, or even between you and God. Sometimes we’re not sure how those barriers got there. Especially the barriers that keep us from God. Often, we don’t know how to get rid of them. And while, sometimes, it seems like those barriers might be permanent, God seems to be telling us something different. As we talked about in this session, if we want to get close to God, we might just discover that it’s simpler than we may have thought to remove the barriers that keep us from Him.
The Bottom Line
To get close to God, remove the barriers.
“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.” ROMANS 5:1-2 (NIV)
What it Means
This week, continued talking about what it means to get closer to God by talking about barriers. Because, sometimes, it feels like there are obstacles between us and God that we can’t overcome. But according to Romans 5, Jesus has removed every barrier so that we can stand close to Him, in grace.
