What is the WE! Shelter/Weaver Shelter?
Each year for 3+ months we host 12-15 men who are experiencing homelessness in our Weaver overnight shelter. The overnight shelter is an extension of the Weaver house through Greensboro Urban Ministry, that opens up during the cold winter months. There is a network of churches that open up to offer additional spaces for men to stay and West Market Street UMC has been one of those churches for the last 7 years.
Over the winter months the same 15 men stay with us so we can form relationships with them, welcome them into our church family through our services and events, assist them with their needs, and help them to achieve their goals.
Over the last 7 years we have seen several success stories come out of the shelter. The three staff members this year who are helping to run the shelter are all former guests in the Weaver Overnight Shelter and have now come back to help others in the same situation.
